Management Apprenticeship Programme

This is one of Sime Darby’s CSR programmes to support our Government’s mission in reducing the unemployment rates amongst graduates by providing them with relevant training courses and on-job-training exposures. Upon completion of this programme, they will have higher chances in getting jobs as they would have acquired relevant commercially useful skills that most employers want in candidates.

It is a 12-month training programme specially designed for graduates who have not been employed. Throughout this 1 year, the apprentices will undergo a 1-month classroom training starting early July 2010, followed by the 11-month On-Job-Training at the respective divisions within Sime Darby Group.

We will be having a 2-day Walk-In Interviews on Tuesday (18 May 2010) & Wednesday (19 May 2010) for the said programme. Moreover, advertisement will be published in The New Straits Times (Friday, 14 May 2010), as well as Berita Harian and Borneo Post (Saturday,15 May 2010). You may also click here for further information.

You may also leave a comment here to ask me anything you'd like.. I'll do my best as a senior MAP to answer your questions.. =D

  1. hey there,
My friend happened to invite me to go for tomorrow open interview. Im actually at the last month of on-job training GEMS. I read some other blogs which kinda picturing this MAP same as GEMS. I dont want another training programme, I need a serious job one, u know..which have SOCSO and KWSP like permanent job. What do you suggest? tell me what u think as senior MAP

  2. hi,
this programme really is for training therefore, no SOCSO or KWSP is given. However, the allowance is quite good as compared to other on-job trainings I believe. If you are looking for a job with SOCSO/ KWSP, I suggest you find a permanent job and not the kind that states training in it. Hope I helped you out. =D

  10. hye Katherine.I'm Hajar.I gt call from SD today n I still not very sure whether I suppose to accept this job or not. Currently I'm working as Officer in NGOs. but only for temporary position. Some people said that it is a good opportunities to got into SD. So i wondering is it most of ur batch get the permanent job from SD now? My field is on Nutrition. so during d interview session I was interviewed by the Nutritionist. So, do u think this program is a good opportunity for me to be one of SD's staff?

  11. @syira its ok, no worries.. yes, I'm absorbed.. It depends on the different departments whether or not you have to undergo probation..So I cant exactly tell you whether or not you will undergo probation.. Some of us did while some of us didn't..

@hajar its hard to answer you when you ask me if most of us got permanent job from SD because, there were many that left for a better offer, there were some that didn't prove up to standards, but there were also a whole lot that got the job offer.. I can say one thing though, SD will help increase your market value.. As for opportunity, it really depends on how you define opportinuty.. hope I helped answer some of your questions..

  14. Hi all..
If u get the chance, whether it is training or not, just join the programme... There's a lot of opportunities inside to become permanent..

based on: was an apprentice, now an exec.. both are in different offices..

1st month we were all put in a hotel (Palace of the golden horses) and undergo in class training which is the most enjoyable month ever~!! period.. dunno la this year where there are goint to send you..

after that, joined a department which is kind of not having job, everyday have to look like busy, but at the same time, kept an eye out for any internal vacancies.. which eventually i got and now i'm busy as hell.. hahaha

so, if u get it, take it.. 1.5k allowance is high after all...

  25. hye there, my name is miza. i've got the offer from sdmap too.sorry for bothering you about this sdmap again katherine huhu

let say during the 1st month of training, i have an interview to attend. is it possible for me to take any leave?i've got another question which kind of silly..did they provide laundry service?-_-"

thanx katherine!n btw i will be placed at R&D sd at banting..which department are you working now?

    ReplyDelete
  26. @miza yes you can take leave to go for interviews.. but 1 month only 1 day.. so if you take more than that, they'll cut your allowance.. R&D banting is quite big.. do you know under which department are you in?? like for example seed centre or what?? I'm in SDTC..

    ReplyDelete
  27. miza-owh, so that is why sd said i'm only allow to take 12 days leave..but i thought during the training class i cannot have any leave bcoz in the email they mentioned 'after i month of training class, you will be allow to take 12 days leave..

i'm not sure which department yet, she just said at pulau carey.. i guess i will be located to those equipments department(HPLC, GC)coz i'm doing it during my final year project haha =D and do you have any advice on which item is important and should i bring? i will go there by bus and i just want to bring one little luggage only =S

    thnx katherine!sorry for bothering you..

    ReplyDelete
  28. @miza yea.. but u can request for the leave..1 day is fine.. i had friends who did that during our classroom training.. on what you should bring, they've written it clearly in your email right? just bring those things, your shampoo and etc, personal belongings, stuff u usually bring for travelling la.. haha.. not to worry.. erm.. laundry service im not so sure, the last time, we had to pay ourselves, when we were staying in the hotel..

  37. Im 1 year late for this question, but i hope youll reply soon...

Have you been absorbed only ofter 1 year training or it could happen earlier? One more question, how about the starting salary for the permanent? I studied mechanical engineering, and was interviewed by SD Industrial in puchong.

    ReplyDelete
  38. hey,

they abosorbed me way earlier before it was 1 year.. I cannot however tell u the starting salary for permanent as that is P&C.. Good luck and all the best to u.. =)

  40. hi there,

I was interviewed by R&D department and they attached me under R&D department..

    ReplyDelete
  41. On behalf of other anonymousses, thank you for the reply! :D

    ReplyDelete
  42. Hi Kat. I am just like the Anonymous above. Studied Mechanical Engineering and will be attached to SD Industial in Puchong. I have passion and interest in Sime Darby. This means that, I am not looking elsewhere once I am in here. Therefore, I worry about job security since I started in the MAP. Do you have any tips on how to get absorbed in less than one year? I would really like to be absorbed. I don't care about salary or benefits because once your in Sime Darby, ringgit sense does not matter anymore, right? Cheers

    ReplyDelete
  43. ur welcome..

Different department have different requirements and I have to say that during my time, quite a number of people were not absorbed.. I guess, if you want to be absorbed, u'll have to show that u are hardworking, capable and really want the job.. however, it also very much depends on whether or not Sime Darby has job to offer you because, if there's no vacancy, then there's really nothing much u can do..
