Religion

p/s: i do hope i don't offend anyone in this blog. I'm writing this base on my own believes and understanding. If i have in anyhow offended anyone in this blog, i sincerely wish for your apology and hope that you would not mind. ;)

A friend of mine posted a blog on this matter and i decided to write a little comment but turns out i couldn't explain everything in short so i decided to write a blog myself..

I know there are lots of religion that believe that their own believers would go to heaven and the ones that are non-believers or you might say non-followers would go to hell. But for me, i believe that religion should not be judge. As long as its within our moral values and its right then its ok. I know defining whats right and whats moral is not easy so let me try and put this in a better phrase. I believe that if a religion does not cause harm to others, does not prevent one from doing whats right, causes a person to do good and not hurt others or cause harm to others in whatever sense then its ok.

Religion (if u can put it this way) is to make a world a better place.. but many people, throughout decades, changed and modified their religion to suite them better and to help them have a sense of security and bond. By saying that people who believe in their religion would go to heaven and those that don't would go to hell, they feel a sense of secure and believe that what they believe is right. This is some sort of a ethnocentrism scenario.

Religion puts many people on the right track, keeping the world in a more safer place. When people face a crisis and don't know what to do they often turn to God. Say for an example, when you are worried you don't do well for your studies or when your relative is very ill *touch wood* you often turn to God, asking God for guidance and help and wishing God would help you. When you feel like killing yourself or even others, you often stop by the very knowledge that you would go to hell if you do so. In every little way, religion plays a role and without it, mankind would cease to exist. Human might be slower or less advanced without science and technology. But if without religion, humanity cannot survive.

I'm not trying to say that science isn't important but you cannot deny that science has brought both harm and also many benefits to mankind. I myself am a biotech student. You see, both helps mankind in many ways, we just never realise it. And besides, most people tend to misuse science to do wrong things and misinterpret their religion and come up with their non-sensical believes of all the nonsense my friend (you know who you are) said.
